LSEN - Lsen (Learners with Special educational needs) is an extraordinary class, providing a safe space for learners who find mainstream education challenging to thrive in.
When a learner from our mainstream is identified as having learning difficulties even after repeating a grade, the educator in the mainstream system will inform the parents and refer the child for an assessment by an Educational Psychologist.
(LSEN is not a remedial class, remedial is short term intervention for children with correctable learning challenges who ultimately reintegrate into mainstream education once these challenges have been overcome).
The LSEN class is specifically geared towards helping learners who have been assessed by an educational psychologist who has in turn recommended that they be placed in the LSEN class.
Inclusive education emphasises the importance of children with disabilities having the same opportunities to learn and grow to their full potential as any other child.
Each class with its adapted curriculum caters for the different levels and abilities of each child. Our Qualified educators and assistants support our learners whilst providing a stimulating teaching and learning environment. The learners engage in lots of auditory and visual learning. Extra activities include stimulating fine and gross motor development. Many educational games and technology including the iPad is used in the classroom.
Our learners also engage in a fully timetabled academic as well as sports programme and are part of all our school extra mural activities. Our classes enable our children to reach their required level of development that will ensure their progression into an LSEN High School.
