AfriTwin is an international school linking initiative between the United Kingdom and South Africa. Clarence Primary School is part of this AfriTwin link. This involves active and reciprocal relations, workshops, shared projects, regular contact and exchanges of teachers and learners & between individuals and whole schools. The AfriTwin Motto is “Sharing Education Together”
Mr Chinniah & Mrs K Moodley meet the AfriTwin Club on a weekly basis as their extra-mural activity.
We have shared inter-school's projects since our link began. Some of our projects have been about Bullying at school, our cultural foods we enjoy, our heritage and culture, “no-one gets left behind” project. We've compiled recipe books, diaries, etc. The children enjoy learning about the children of the World through sending emails, penpal letters and video calls in real time which are a great source of fun, learning and enjoyment to all.
In 2006, Mr L Chinniah represented our school and Durban by speaking at the first international Afritwin conference held in Manchester.
In 2011, we were selected to spend a week of teaching at Springfield Primary in Sale, UK. We participated in the Cluster Group with exchange & interaction between Woodheys Primary & Springfield Primary (UK) & Clarence Primary, Gordon Road Girls & Hilda Makhanya School.
In 2014 we represented the AfriTwin Clarence Primary link by spending a week at Midlands Christian School in Gweru, Zimbabwe. We worked on building up a 3-way link amongst Clarence Primary (SA), Springfield Primary (UK) & Zimbabwe (Africa).
In March 2014, we attended the Connecting Schools Conference in Cape Town. We represented Clarence Primary as one of the lead South African School.
In 2018 and to date we am still active educators who are continuing to build on our partnerships across the World and in developing Global Citizenship amongst our children.
Our AfriTwin Club at Clarence Primary, has in progress, an informal friendly link with Cugini Primary (New York) and we are maintaining our links with our other schools at the same time.
