120 Birthday Celebrations

What an Amazing Day!,
4 August 2025 , will forever be remembered as a proud and joyful day in the history of Clarence Primary School. Today, we celebrated 120 years of excellence, growth, and unity — and what a celebration it was!

The morning began with a breathtaking moment as our learners lined up on the school field to form a giant “120” formation . Surrounding them were our teachers, support staff, SGB members, and invited guests, all standing in unity, hand-in-hand, symbolising our strength as one school family. It was a touching sight of togetherness.

We were honoured to have former educators join us — teachers who once shaped young minds and whose legacy still lives on in our corridors.

An overhead drone captured stunning aerial footage of the 120 formation — a proud symbol of our rich legacy. These powerful images truly captured the spirit and beauty of Clarence Primary.

Once the perfect shot was taken, our lively program got underway.

The celebration began with a warm welcome from Mrs P Ncwane , followed by a heartfelt opening prayer by Mr S Thulukanam .

Our Programme Director, Mrs S Sukdeo , kept the flow energetic and engaging as she introduced each speaker.

Ms J Gwagwa took centre stage and led the school in the National Anthem, School Song, and a joyful rendition of “Happy Birthday” — all sung with pride and passion that filled the air.

One of the most touching moments came from Mrs K Moodley , our longest-serving educator, who has served at CPS for an incredible 29 years. Her emotional speech took us on a nostalgic journey, filled with cherished memories and heartfelt reflections.

Our principal, Mr MB Shandu , reminded us of the rich history of our school and inspired our learners with a powerful motivational message, encouraging them to carry the torch forward with pride.

Our Head Boy and Head Girl also gave powerful speeches, filled with pride for their school and appreciation for what Clarence has given them.

An encouraging message from our SGB representative praised the efforts of the staff and learners and reminded us to keep striving for greatness in the years ahead.

The skies were filled with 120 red, white, and blue balloons — creating a magical moment of celebration and colour.

Then came the showstopper: a massive birthday cake, generously sponsored by Avonmore Spar, stood as the centrepiece of the day. It was not only beautiful but symbolic of the love and support our school receives from our community.

And just when you thought the fun was over… Miss C Bain turned up the energy with a dance party on the field! Learners were jumping, dancing, and having the time of their lives — the field was full of laughter, movement, and happiness.

Every learner was treated to a delicious cupcake iced in school colours, followed by a refreshing ice cream — the perfect sweet ending to a truly spectacular day.

Thank you, parents, for your continued support and encouragement.

Days like today remind us that Clarence Primary is not just a school — it’s a family.
And when this family comes together, we truly shine.

With gratitude and pride,
The CPS Team
