

In Grades 1 our learners enjoy a productive fully time tabled day. Each class has the additional support from teacher assistants.
Our Children work in a stimulating environment as we follow a structured academic as well as sporting programme. We are equipped with a professional sports coach as well as other specialist teachers. The children are exposed to learning English, isiZulu as well as some basic Afrikaans as their additional language.

The CAPS Foundation Phase curriculum comprises three learning areas, each with a specific focus.
Language: Our English curriculum begins with Emergent Literacy and scaffolds their exposure to a variety of texts and stories, with an emphasis on Phonetic skills to equip them to become capable readers and writers. The focus lies on listening and speaking, reading, writing and developing comprehension skills in English. Our Reading room promotes the appreciation for books whilst nurturing a love for reading and story-telling.
Mathematics: The Mathematics learning areas
aims to develop
numeracy skills such as Numbers Operations, Patterns and shapes basic geometry,
measurement and data handling. Our core focus of the mathematics curriculum is
the development of Mathematical languages and calculation strategies, number
manipulation, interpretation of mathematical information and problem
solving.
Our classrooms are equipped with concrete apparatus and games and encourage our
learners to become confident and competent in their mathematical abilities
Robotics and Coding and Robotics is time tabled into our weekly programme as we
embrace technology in this, the 4th revolution.
Life Skills: This learning area is designed to develop essential life skills such as critical thinking, decision making, self-awareness and interpersonal communication. The curriculum encourages learners to be creative and express themselves in social and physical development. Life Skills has three areas Personal and Social well-being, Creative Arts and Physical education.
Terms 1 and 4 are our swimming seasons whilst sports come into play in Terms 2&3. Extra murals are also offered at no extra cost. These include sports such as Mini-Netball, Mini-Cricket, Soccer, Hockey, Arts & Crafts, Eco- Club, Chess, Balls Skills and so much more.
The emphasis is on discovery and creativity.
Learning takes place from discussions and several activities. The children consolidate concepts through group work completing tasks and homework. Each term our parents are issued with a report and/or parent interview meetings to keep them abreast of scholastic matters as well as your child's progress.
Our learners leave foundation phase equipped with academic, social, moral, physical as well as emotional skills. At CPS we ensure that the best foundation is created where there is love and learning.
